Site and Program: 
Located at a small private college east of Downtown Los Angeles, this new 100,000 square foot Fitness and Athletics Center contains facilities for the school’s recreational and varsity athletes, including a flexibly-configured, 2000-seat arena for varsity games and special events. 

Goals:
Our primary goal was to create a new communal center for the campus – an active, light-filled set of spaces that would encourage social interaction, teamwork, and a sense of school spirit through participation in athletics and related activities.

Solution:
The most commonly used facilities are organized around a series of interior “streets” that emanate from the main lobby and flow around the main gym while providing access to other important functions surrounding this compact building, such as the adjacent track. Abundant glazing invites physical and visual interaction between the various activities within and outside the building, as well as views to the nearby mountains.
