REBUILDING TOGETHER

The AIA Pasadena & Foothill Chapter has been working tirelessly since the Wildfires of January 2025 to support both our members and the community at large.

At the first anniversary, we are reflecting on what we have accomplished and the road ahead. We greatly thank and acknowledge the effort of our more than 250 volunteers who have made this possible!

We have mobilized around several key initiatives that are primarily public-facing, beyond our traditional member-facing programming, including the following...

Ask an

Architect

________________

  • We deployed our Ask an Architect program virtually in February 2025 to intake virtual consultations for those impacted.
  • Our Ask an Architect program has reached over 380 community members through online sign ups, and we have 150 licensed architect volunteers working with us.
  • We fielded Ask an Architect volunteer groups at 26 in person events both in the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire burn areas.

Rebuilding

Education

________________

  • We developed new webpages on the AIAPF website to support public-facing content, including our Directory and Wildfire Support pages.
  • We developed a 3-minute video describing the rebuilding process.
  • We hosted our flagship event, the “Roadmap to Rebuilding” Town Hall on March 15th and presented at four other community events.
  • We focused on engagement with non-English speaking communities who were impacted and not generally supported through recovery efforts. We developed a range of our educational materials in both Spanish and Mandarin. Additionally, we hosted a Spanish-language version of our Rebuilding Together Town Hall which was very well-received by the community.
  • We forged partnerships with a variety of organizations, including PostFireLA, SoCal NOMA, USGBC, Architecture for Communities Los Angeles, the Eaton Fire Collaborative, and others to contribute our professional knowledge to the community of survivors.
  • We presented at the 2025 AIA Women’s Leadership Summit to help other AIA chapters prepare for future disaster response.

Advocacy & Government Affairs

________________

• We have issued two policy memos on a range of topics and continue to develop new memos and advocacy efforts around specific topics as they arise.

• We have built a relationship with LA County Department of Public Works and Regional Planning, and co-hosted a webinar in partnership with LA County Recovers on April 26th on the topic of How to Engage with a Design Professional.

• We met with LA County Public Works to offer suggestions on how to improve the self-certification pilot program.

• We were able to work with LA County Public Works Department of Regional Planning to modify the Climate Zone requirements for certain areas of Altadena that were included in Zone 16, which has much more stringent requirements (similar to the mountain climates) rather than most of Altadena and LA.

Thank you to our everyone who continues to show up to help with the response, recovery and rebuilding!
