Located on a tiered lot in a hillside subdivision, the Meyerhofer
Residence (along with its surrounding landscape) is the complete
redesign of a 50s-era post and beam home. The residence weaves together
interior and exterior living spaces by extending the second story and
setting the house deeper into the hillside to expand the usable grade at
the main level. Behind the carport a basement was added to create much
needed storage and expand the functionality of the lowest level of the
site. A composite of concrete, steel, glass, stone and wood—the home
elegantly asserts itself while remaining sensitive to the view corridors
of its neighbors and the landscape of the nearby San Gabriel Mountains.
